Summer Bulbs

With summer still in full flow it’s easy to forget about planning ahead for flowers in the garden next spring, but now is the time to start thinking about ordering bulbs to plant out ready for a burst of colour early next year. Spring flowering bulbs such as daffodils, hyacinths and crocus should really be planted out by the end of September and tulips by the end of November or certainly before the first frost.

Hardy summer flowering bulbs such as lilies and, my favourite, alliums should also be planted ideally in September to ensure dramatic flowers can be enjoyed next summer. Plant in a warm sunny site with good drainage to get best results.
