Work is underway in a steeply slopping garden in Digswell. The original garden was at a higher level than the house and had a very shallow patio which meant the views from the ground floor in the house were obscured with a retaining wall and picket fence. The brief was to create a more user friendly space leading from the sitting room and kitchen by designing a curved patio not only are the views, from the house, but the whole garden is given a greater sense of depth. Curved retaining walls at patio level allow for planting at mid level and a central water feature provide a dramatic focal point.
An open upright timber barrier at the top of the curved walling offers safety and creates a contemporary style to the garden. Further up the garden the curved theme carries on with circular lawns and curved block pathways leading you up to the large play area at the top of the garden. The client was keen to have a flat lawned area for their young children to play football and to house the play equipment. Planting was kept simple and followed a woodland theme with muted soft colours. All landscaping works carried out by Perennial Landscape.
